Mimized heat loss
The school is
constructed with masonry bearing walls, and steel frame roof and floors.
This type of construction permits the insulation to be continuous
and minimizes heat loss. Wall insulation fully overlaps the roof insulation.
The air infiltration barrier also overlaps the juncture of wall to
roof to insure tightness of the envelope.
The new school
building is 30% more efficient in its design than required by Mass
energy code.
